Robert McBurney: Oil Paint, Loose and Abstract

DAYS: Saturday & Sunday

VENUE #03 – VIEW ON MAP >>

I’ve painted and drawn, without showing my work, for 40 or 50 years. I’ve painted in a variety of mediums and additionally, for some years, I’ve drawn and painted digitally using the ArtRage programme.

Recently, I’ve been spending more time painting in oils and now, in my mid-80s, I’ve found a new voice. Some time ago I came across the work of Nicholas de Stael and in one of those Eureka moments I decided to move towards abstraction. Mostly, I’m working on quite large canvases with painting knives rather than brushes; concentrating on colour, surface texture and impasto. I try to enjoy the whole journey, so I prepare my own canvases and make my own frames.
