Ally Willows is a landscape artist based in Horsforth. She creates paintings in response to her encounters with the wild, capturing a sense of the energy and atmosphere of the moment when she experienced the view. She alters her methods based on the subject matter and what it calls for: thick, energetic marks with oil paint and palette knife; gentle and subtle blends of paint and soft pastel; dabs on un-primed canvas for a blotted image. She is particularly obsessed with vast skies and majestic mountains, but a series of calm seascapes in many shades of white have held her focus recently.
